So, what is Paraiba Topaz? For starters, let me clarify that this topaz is merely a look-alike of the Paraiba Tourmaline. The topaz is natural, having been mined from the ground, but it has been enhanced to achieve its vibrant color. In the late '90s to early 2000s, a small company in California developed a method of treating Topaz to resemble London Blue Topaz, without the high costs associated with nuclear treatment. They baked a chemical into the skin of the topaz using extremely high heat and pressure. Initially, the stones turned out too green, but one bright soul observed their resemblance to Paraiba Tourmaline, and voilà—a market was created for their "too green for London Blue Topaz experiment." We use the term "Paraiba" as a unique color descriptor because no other term better captures the essence of this stunning natural stone. It’s a really cool color—there's nothing else quite like it!
