To be clear, this stone is a look-alike of the famous Paraiba Tourmaline. It’s a natural topaz—mined from the ground—but it has been enhanced. During the late '90s and early 2000s, a small California company developed a treatment that baked a chemical into the skin of the topaz under high heat and pressure to mimic London Blue Topaz. The stones often turned out too green, but a clever eye realized it resembled Paraiba Tourmaline, and the market was born for “Too green for London Blue”.
